Letter from the advisory board chair, Vicky Summogum,MBA, FETC, CPC, CMC
Dear Members,
Allow me to introduce myself to you all. As of January 1, 2000, I assumed
the position as Chair of the Advisory Council for AIOCM. I am excited at the
prospect of being able to actively proceed in the development of strategies
to professionalize outcomes based case management as it relates to implementation
throughout the continuum of care, health and life. Some of the strategic directions
we are going to be taking on this year will include: · Increasing our visibility.
In this area we want to specifically establish ourselves as the leader in
the development of the professionalization of outcomes based case management.
We are going to be informing the following entities about our activities.
- 100% of Human Resource Departments and Administration of hospitals, physicians
group practice, payer organizations, third party administrator groups, etc.
- Medicare and Medicaid - National Institute of Health - American Hospital
Association - American Medical Association - Various professional organizations
such as: American Nurses Association, American Social Worker's Association,
American Respiratory Association, etc. · Developing standards for outcomes-case
management practices. · Developing competencies for the practice of outcomes-case
management. · Conducting assessment of needs in the implementation of case
management and delineated areas of research. · Conduct research and develop
solutions for challenges in case management in the 21st. Century. · Assess
education needs and make recommendations to educational bodies. · To develop
a recommendation for a salary structure commiserate with the actual work of
case management. · To continue to expand the outcome based interdisciplinary
model of case management. I am excited about the strategic direction set for
the year 2000. As I move to accomplish these tasks, I may have to ask for
help from the members. Your input will be crucial as to how successful we
are. I will keep you informed. Have a wonderful New Year.
Sincerely,
Vicky Summogum, MBA, RN, CMC
