About AIOCM
Today, consumers, payers,
providers, employers, regulators and society are demanding a method to determine
value, quality, accountability and cost efficiency in the provision of health
care services across multiple continuums of care, health and quality of life.
These demands are upshots of the present health care climate. To meet these
demands, organizations must set up new strategies and initiatives. Outcomes-case
management is one of the new initiatives.
As organizations move
to implement case management as an initiative to achieve the above, it is
apparent that the traditional model focusing on functions such as assessment,
planning, coordination, intervention, monitoring, pre-authorization, and utilization
management is not adequate. Today's health care environment requires the focus
to be redirected to outcomes. Outcomes generate useful data and information.
This data and information can be used to manage and improve the performance
of processes. When the performance of processes is improved outcomes are also
improved. Outcome management produces data to inform clinicians, providers,
payers, and regulators on how to better serve the consumer. Outcomes determine
value, quality and accountability in an objective manner.
OBJECTIVES
To focus on activities
recognizing outcome management as a process based on data measurement.
-
To
develop and further advance practical and theoretical methodologies to
implement outcomes-case management for employer, payer and provider organizations
along the diverse continuum of care, health and quality of life.
-
To
pose important questions and resourcefully pursue answers about outcomes-case
management and the impact and benefits of managing outcomes in the health
care industry.
-
To
establish standards for the practice of outcomes-case management.
-
To
develop and establish quality monitoring in the practice of outcomes-case
management.
-
To
continually evaluate and update the requirements for national certification
of outcome-case managers to meet the needs of the industry.
AIOCM believes that
since outcomes can only be achieved by a multidisciplinary effort, all health
care professionals such as, medical doctors, nurses, executives, respiratory
therapists, social workers, pharmacists, etc., can become certified provided
they meet the AIOCM certification requirements. AIOCM does not believe that
only a segment of the health care professionals (registered nurses or social
workers) are qualified to be certified case managers.
